I am not sure if this is doable but I am wondering if there is a chance of having a single image on the page which acts as a link to the gallery. I mean, just a single picture on the page which allows browsing multiple pictures (not shown on the page) when somebody clicks on the single one.
I checked examples and it seems that the tool creates the gallery only out of the pictures shown on the page (either multiple {{< figure.. >}} or {{}} ).
