We have 18 observations for tree height for R. cathartica, from 9 different studies. Most of the trait data comes from BIEN.
There is one large outlier in the data, but there is no additional information about who collected it or the study. All I can figure out is that it is from the American Forests big tree register:
It is not obvious to me what could be causing this issue, I am open to other ideas of what to look at. I looked at the distributions of heights from the 9 studies that have R. cathartica height data and it anything I would have expected the posteriors to be pulled upward, not down by the study effects.
I am looking into why we are seeing lower model posterior estimates for Rhamnus cathartica compared to the raw data.
Dan pointed out that this is an invasive species in North America, so it would also be interesting to know whether it is being measured in its native or invaded range, or both!
