Edits to Fig 1 (cue levels versus day of event)

If we can I suggest we play around with this figure some. I think we should:

• [x] Show two traits. Maybe we just show two very contrasting results (whichever trait has the strongest/biggest relationship versus the one with the weakest/smallest)? I realize no trait has consistent relationships across cues so pick height or SLA (I would pick height) and seed mass or LNC ... and then pick out the cue that is the biggest and the smallest to mention in text.
• [x] Is it then possible to have the same two species across all traits?
• [x] Check my queries in the Rnw about the caption.
• [x] Where does conceptual version go?

For our notes, I have redone the figure (which is as of now fig 3) to be SLA and LNC in the main text, and height and seed mass in the supplement. I am not quite sure I understand what you mean by "pick out the cue that is the biggest and smallest", do we not already discuss this in points 4 and 5? Or do you just want it mentioned more succintly?

It was challenging to pick two species for all traits, but I did find four species that I think work. Alnus incana had high trait values and Quercus ilex low values for for SLA and LNC, while Populus tremula and Acer pseudoplatanus had high and low values for height and seed mass. I adjusted the y-axis to include the full range of days to event values, as per your query in the Rnw.

For now I just put the conceptual figure at the top of the two figures in the main text and the supp., but we can decide to put it elsewhere if we don't like it.

I think we should change the faint lines to a dashed line or something, since I find it hard to differentiate that there are different colours in the legend.
