@lizzieinvancouver next I will continue onward to section 4!
Chatting with @dbuona about our model (versus other ones I have been writing about):
@donahuem also: We created a model where we have a fair amount of flexibility in the timing and shape of the germination .... what we allowed for relatively complex phenological response to the environment (overwintering) -- including delay and germination fraction.
Some models look only at the headstart and our old model looked only at the germination fraction -- this model does both. (Remember: We only show results with fixed germination fraction.) This says how much do you germinate in years where you have an advantage. --> This is where phenology to competition matters! (Of my environment -> phenology -> competition framing).
Note: risk is included in future directions in paper (so I should not use it too much).
My notes from 8 July 2024 Prieff meeting:
Fundamentally any resource competition ends up with a winner, how do we do it? We add another axis (timing).
Work on writing section(s) 3 (and some of 4 or even 5 if time permits) from prief_outline.pdf to prief_manuscript.Rnw
