Suggestion: It would be useful if the I/O operations in mos-sim could be expanded to support more of the host OS:

getchar with timeout support
delay(ms) for timing in "real time"
cbreak/raw mode for the tty
proxy file-related system calls

These additions could support:

Testing of realistic applications prior to uploading to a device.
Run more of llvm's automated test suite; e.g. for testing stdio wrapped around the host system call layer.
