we could create a second corresponding repository at GitHub, where the students can work on. They actually could fork a repository, clone it, make changes and do pull requests.
the students can also look at the repository and drop issues if they recognised something

After understanding the term Replicability I have ideas for 2 major tasks students can do during the course:

Students create some work / results from a research project (when analysing specific data) with the claim of being reproducible by others
Students reproduce work from other students (see bullet point 1) and evaluate how reproducible the work is.
