chapter 1, essentials: git add, git commit, maybe git log and git diff (focus on the basic ideas)
chapter 2, basic git workflow (local version control): commit message etiquette, HEAD, amed, gitignore, which files to put under version control

after the second session, users should know everything they need to basic local version control
