Blog posts categories currently reuse the core topics taxonomy.
This might conflict with the wider site, as topics are (or have been) widly used on content pages if installed in a main LGD site (less of an issue on a microsite).
I notice news has a dedicated news categories, and categories suggests something more formal and ordered, whereas loose taxonomy would typically use tags.
Looking at Wordpress I see both a categories and tags format, and this would be something our authors are familliar with.
