Joystick brings up Options Menu

I'm purplexed. 
I'm using a Kindle Fire, Sys ver. 6.3.1.  I can load ROMs with no problem.  
Once a game is loaded, if I press down on the joystick, the main system menu 
pops up 
Input (General)
Input (This Game)
Dip Switches
Etc...
When I press up on the joystick, verious sound menu's appear (one at a time).  
Like 'Volume 0db' or 'Gamma 1.00' etc.

This just started happening one day.  I've un/reinstalled and messed with the 
menus many times at an attempt to reset to default settings...with no luck.
PLEASE HELP!!!

Delete cfg folder besides rom folder
