This is a duplicate of Issue 18. You need to install the October update of the
Character Builder.

I have fully updated the software with everything available.
For some reason, none of the 2010 patches worked on this laptop (Win 7x64 bit),
but when I copied the install from my Win 732-bit machine, it worked find (drop
down box for dwarves and all)
However, I am still getting the error:
4/12/2011 1:05:02 PM - ERROR:
Inner Exception: '<', hexadecimal value 0x3C, is an invalid attribute
character. Line 237141, position 23.
4/12/2011 1:05:03 PM - INFO: Errors Encountered While Loading. Would you like
to open the log file? (y/n)
This is what appears in the combined.dnd40 file:
<RulesElement name="Staff of Knives +3" type="Magic Item" internal-id="ID_FMP_MAGIC_ITEM_6490" source="Adventurer's Vault 2" revision-date="11/16/2009 1:04:34 PM" >
<Flavor> This steel-gray wooden staff transforms into a steel-hard wooden dagger on command. </Flavor>
with:
<Flavor> This steel-gray wooden staff transforms into a steel-hard wooden dagger on command. </Flavor>
being the 237141st line

You want to look at your combined.dnd40.main file, not the combined.dnd40 file.

I have a similar issue by mine states error on line 228029. is there a quick
way to look through the lines, to find a specific one?

I find the best way to get past these errors is to go to %appdata%\Roaming and
find CBLoader then just delete that whole file.
