@aniskand, medlineplus were hosting the infobutton implementation but their site currently don't mention if its the updated implementation. Will this server be available for mass usage or what?

MedlinePlus doesn’t use OpenInfobutton. We are not planning to make a server available for mass usage. We are making a VM available that can be hosted on a server of your choice.

I am very surprised that OpenInfobutton can't be connected up with Medline Plus! That is a terrific resource. What is the reason they can't work together? I was under the apparently mistaken impression that they did already.

Just to clarify, OpenInfobutton does connect to MedlinePlus. My previous reply was to a question about whether “medlineplus was hosting the infobutton implementation”. MedlinePlus has its own implementation. They don’t use the OpenInfobutton software.

@gdelfiol MedlinePlus as by their documented web service guide don't support extended parameters that are now mandatory eg: Gender, Age etc. They might be but its not given in their documentation as far as i check.

So, we now have to switch to some other InfoButton implementation thats why we are looking into OpenInfoButton.

Hopefully that will clearify the things.

OpenInfobutton and MedlinePlus are completely different services. OpenInfobutton is just a broker and does not provide any content itself. It provides connections to several online resources, including, but not limited to MedlinePlus. There are other patient education resources that are HL7 infobutton compliant, but they are commercial products that require a license.

I am not sure where you are getting the information that the Infobutton Standard requires parameters such as gender and age. Those parameters are not required in the HL7 infobutton spec.

So, thats why we are upgrading our InfoButton implementation to use that for better Online Health Education.
