Ok that would actually be better. I just wasn't sure if it was possible to extract the time it was taken. After a quick search, it looks only feasible on jpeg images. I would need to spent some time making a small test to see if ti's working before adding it as a feature in the app, but that can be a good idea. the only downside is that it will be only for jpeg and tiff images (I would need more time to confirm that)
for future reference:
One issue with this is that sometimes I use an old photo in my phone to send photos in for duplicate photos. For instance, I send in the yogurt photo from my phone using the same photo but I would want this to show up for today, not the day I took it.
Then we have to decide what works best. Maybe this is a nice solution but have too many inconvenience.
I can ask this in the survey after the Jan cohort ends.
I'm moving this to future sprints. I think when we have a mobile app, we can let users chose whether they want to use the photo taken time or current time when they send a photo with the app.
While we don't have a mobile app, I think some users will be like me, taking the same photo and uploading it again.
Suggestion from Sho (is there a way to access the data on WHEN a photo was taken?):
The pictures show a time when I roll over them. The times don't match with the time of the picture. So, I was confirming that the time that's displayed is the time that it was stored into your database or the time that the email with the picture was received. I know that I took some of the pictures in the morning and sent it in the PM. The displayed time is 10:45PM (or so).
It seems like that it doesn't capture when the picture was taken, which it probably more relevant than when the picture was received, especially if the pictures are sent in batches per day or every couple of days.
That would better coincide with the meal since the picture is taken just before eating it. It's hard to rely on people to upload immediately. Sometimes in social situations, it isn't going to work out.
