this is an intersting article about how to manage emails in your app http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2013/02/11/how-email-alienate-users What particulary attract my attention is this sentence: "just because someone has signed up to your service doesn’t mean they have agreed to receive email from you."

I completely agree with that and I think the thing we are doing wrong at the moment are:

• subscribing automatically users to daily and weekly emails straight from sign up
• no way to unsubscribe from likes/comments/follow.

We should think about it and these following path could be part of the solution:

• in app notification for comments/like/followers
• more detailed settings to subscribe/unsubscribed to the different emails we send
• put a checkbox on register page to agree to the terms of the app that will mention that they agree to receive emails from us.

Yes agreed. We can work on these in sprint 8.

Once we have in-app notification, we can add ways to unsubscribe from likes/comments/follows. We can then add more settings about unsubscribing/subscribing to different emails under Settings page.

Is the terms of the app different from our current Terms page?
