Feedback on chaptering: Chaptering is very inconsistent #1089

I think the chaptering in the game is very inconsistent and, somewhat strange. Some chapters are very short, while some chapters are very long.

For example, chapter 8 contains a whopping 7 levels, while chapter 1 contains only one level.

Current chaptering is as follows: 1 (office) 2 (reserve1,reserve2, reserve3) 3 (tunnel1, tunnel2, tunnel3, tunnel4) 4 (furnace, tower) 5 (watertreatment, sewer, sewer2) 6 (sewer3, metro, metroride, waterplant, minitrain, central) 7 (servicetunnel, skyscraper, bunker, stormdrain, cistern, powerstation) 8 (powerstation2, isle1, isle2, isle3, business1, business2, officeblackout) 9 (rails, tenements, river, villa, fields) 10 (npp, reactor, roof)

The game contains 40 levels in total. I think it would be more resonable to give each chapter a resonable amount of levels. Its just the Heavy industry of the past that is a bit problematic, because that chapter is tucked between two pretty long chapters that are unsplittable. (since the chapters must make sense aswell, starting the fresh water chapter inside the steel plant wouldn't make sense)

Yes, I know it will break up the parts/acts, but along with the INFRA: Complete Edition, I think the parts does no longer make sense really, and it wouldn't hurt to do chaptering at other boundaries than the parts. The acts in achievement names could instead say something like: "Complete 90% pictures before you have been unconscious" "Complete 90% pictures after you have been unconsicous for the first time" "Complete 90% pictures after you have been unconsicous for the second time"

Thus, the cues will still be there.

In the suggestion, I removed the chapter preparations (and put the office map in Just another day at work instead), and replaced it with a new chapter Power struggle, between Working overtime and Late for a meeting, while I also moved some levels to smooth it out.

(Power struggle would become a great chapter, both because you do all your things with the coal power plant, but also for the power outage that appears in isle2 "Well, There goes the power")

Suggestion: 1 (Office, Reserve1, Reserve2, Reserve3) - Just another day at work 2 (Tunnel1, Tunnel2, Tunnel3, Tunnel4) - Forgotten world 3 (furnace, tower) - Heavy industry of the past 4 (watertreatment, sewer, sewer2, sewer3) - Fresh water 5 (metro, metroride, waterplant, minitrain, central) - Public transport 6 (servicetunnel, skyscraper, bunker, stormdrain, cistern) - Working overtime 7 (powerstation, powerstation2, isle1, isle2, isle3) - Power struggle 8 (business1, business2, officeblackout) - Late for a meeting 9 (rails, tenements, river, villa) - To save a city 10 (fields, npp, reactor, roof) - Redemption

What do you think?

Saves would of course not be affected, since you are only changing some chapter names. There is a flag that can be set if the Changes are incompatible with older saves, this flag can be unset.

And when it comes to achievement progress of the achievements with refers to photos, geocaches and fixes within a specific part, I also told how the progress could be untouched, by just changing the description of the achievements so the achievement boundaries are kept, by referring to the "Cues" of the player becoming unconsicous instead of referring to parts and chapters.

The achievements that refer to chapters, for example completion of chapter 1, completion of chapter 2 etc could just have its markers moved to the new location. Those that have completed the achievements will keep the completion even without reaching the new location, those that have not, will complete the achievement at the new location.
