Current buffer has no process

I'm in the gnu-apl-mode interactive buffer. Typing anything and pressing RET displays "Current buffer has no process".

What does it mean and how do i fix it?

It means that the GNU APL session is not active. Did you start the session by calling M-x gnu-apl?
