It appears that pressing on a key causes some sort of animation that blacks out
the other keys on that line, leaving only the key you pressed. The blacked out
keys do not return. A simple fix may be just turning off key animations. Or
an option to use the stock keyboard.

Ok, I didn't realize I could choose my the stock keyboard. That works great!
But, the soft menu keys still overlay the keyboard when it is up. Sometimes it
seems like the screen is just not refreshing things properly. It might be a
system problem rather than a shortyz one.

How does one apply the stock keyboard with shortyz, on the rooted nook touch?

Under settings, there's an option called "Keyboard Style". Choose "Native" and
it will use the stock keyboard instead of the Shortyz keyboard. It doesn't
have the arrows though and I miss them, so it would be nice if the Shortyz
keyboard could refresh the display more often.

Thanks for the quick reply! Am running 3.0.5, and the settings do not provide
a "Keyboard Style" option. However, now that you have shown me where to look,
it does appear that the preferences.xml for 3.0.5 should have it present
according to the code change logs; I'll experiment with the apk and see what I
can come up with.
Guess I should've asked you sooner and saved putting up with the blackened
keyboard these few months. :-) Too bad the Shortyz keyboard couldn't simply
refresh itself somehow, yes.

It seems version 3.1.5 does provide more settings options, including "Keyboard
Style", so am set now. Thanks again!
