Cleanup the Mosaic class #22

This is more of a reminder to myself.  I was looking through the Mosaic
class, and I think there's a possibility that we can clean up at least a
few different member variables, and the createImage method.

This doesn't have to come before the next release, but I'd like to take a
look eventually

We did some cleanup before the release, but I'm not sure if more should still be
done. I'll leave this issue here, just to check back later
