Hello,
Are you sure that the firmware upgrade is the root cause of the crashes? In other words, were your bulbs crashing before the upgrade?
I have definitely noticed disconnection issues with the LIFX bulbs but it seems to be a wide-spread issue affecting people who are not using lightsd.
LIFX has never really explained the reason(s) for the crashes. The API is indeed deprecated but it hasn't really been replaced: with the new grouping API you apparently cannot add a bulb in more than one group with it:
https://community.lifx.com/t/adding-bulb-to-multiple-groups/1143
Which is a feature that lightsd supports today.
I'm disappointed by those two points, but I am ready to work on a new grouping API.
Hi,
Yes, it is the new firmware. Firmware version 2.09 for the A19 bulbs works without any crashes with lightsd and no disconnection issues. I only updated a few bulbs to 2.14, so I still have many on 2.09 and they work nicely still.
I have never put bulbs into multiple groups, but being unable to group 2.14 bulbs at all is very cumbersome. I'm using lightsd exclusively to control the bulbs.
Thank you for the quick response.
Was this something that ever got resolved? I was thinking of trying my hand at a Home Assistant lightsd component but if there are issues like the one mentioned I'll give it a pass for now.
Hi @mihalski,
Sorry this hasn't been fixed, I'd love to, but I haven't been able to find time to work on lightsd recently.
Stay tuned though!
LIFX have released new firmware updates that includes changes which breaks lightsd, at least parts of lightsd. The A19 bulbs that I have updated to 2.14 are now crashing if I try to change their tag with lightsd. It may affect other messages, but I haven't tried them all. Setting the label works, and changing their colors works as well.
LIFX are saying lightsd is using deprecated messages, and this seems to be a problem with (all?) third-party software for the LIFX bulbs with the new firmware. I would appreciate it if lightsd could be updated to resolve this.
Thank you very much.
