installable fixes #1

These are some changes I made to install the gem and run Treat.install(:english) on my local machine which is ubuntu 11.10 and ruby 1.9.3 from source. I suspect these changes would be widely applicable.

The changes are pretty straightforward, but I'm not yet familiar with the details of the library so I'd recommend a serious review of the code.

Excellent! Thanks a lot for this. I'm continuously working on the library, and planning a major, fully tested release in the next month. In the meantime, please be aware that some features may be a bit unstable and that the Wiki might be slightly out-of-date. Stay tuned!
