Slavic Migration #401

This is related to #19

From what I understand, event 8 should fire for the top liege, and 36 should fire for the previous direct province owner whose lands have been given by the top liege to the Slavs, only when the owner is not the top liege. Can you confirm this? If yes, more will have to be done to finish it.

IhateTrains commented 5 years ago

@loup99 I think the events are done (are working). The only problem (not a bug, tho) is that the units given in the first option of event 8 are too small or don't exist at all.

loup99 commented 5 years ago

To clarify the whole process as intended by Zusk: zusk_event.8 should fire for the top liege of a realm that borders a Slavic Pagan realm or province. Due there having been settlement of Slavs in one province of the realm of the liege character that receives the event, he gets the choice of either allowing the Slavs to settle, which leads to a new Slavic culture emerging there and a new Slavic ruler taking over as his vassal or to fight them off. zusk_event.36 does indeed fire in case the settlement is allowed, and would probably just be an opinion hit between the vassal and his liege who gave away his province.

EDIT: See Zusk's own concept in the chat.

EDIT2: On the event troops, we could make them relative to both the neighbouring province which start the process and maybe slightly tied to the receiving province as well since the tribe is already there. Additionally troop composition could be studied to ensure the Slavs could have a tactical advantage, maybe.

EDIT3: I can maybe help you out if you need to add the missing option on zusk_event.8.

What has come to my mind is that the settlement chance could depend on the fort level, better fortified provinces should be settled less often or make the ruler be more willing to fight for them.

loup99 commented 5 years ago

Do you mean castle fortifications?

IhateTrains commented 5 years ago

No, the capital holding's fort level.

IhateTrains commented 5 years ago

Another thing that should be tweaked IMO: if the realm decides to fight the Slavs, the province should only convert when the Slavs win. What do you think?

loup99 commented 5 years ago

The Slavs are already arriving in the province, but I could get that only the event troops would represent them. Otherwise you could have it that if the Slavs lose the province converts back.

IhateTrains commented 5 years ago

Makes sense, I will probably go for your solution if it's possible.

IhateTrains commented 5 years ago

@loup99 for now I went for the initial solution because I just didn't find an easy way to restore the original culture. I used to think were was a revert_culture command for it, but now I think it must have been a misread reverse_culture.

Here's a list of remaining issues:

IhateTrains commented 5 years ago

I think the force composition and start date for Slavic Migration changes may not be needed after all the changes that have been made and that have probably changed the outcome significantly. I will do some test runs and let you guys form an opinion yourself.

loup99 commented 5 years ago

I think the date changes (or preferably restrictive conditions that amount to a date change in practice) are still needed, to guarantee that the one odd migration which isn't plausible doesn't happen. Because even if it is only one chance on 100, the AI is likely to take it in one hundred years or so.

IhateTrains commented 5 years ago

I suggest 500 as the start date then. The Slavs historically managed to settle west of the Oder river in the sixth century, and it would be rather impossible for them in the mod if the start date was 550.

loup99 commented 5 years ago

First of all, as I said a hard date might not be the best solution. However, I don't see how reaching the Oder would be impossible if starting in 550. Remember that the AI will take all the chances it gets until it is explicitly prevented from continuing.

IhateTrains commented 5 years ago

I suggested 500 instead of 550 because it's almost impossible for them to travel so many provinces (I think 7 is the minimal amount) in 50 years, with the current MTTH. @Zusk also said that 550 will only work if we change the MTTH.

loup99 commented 5 years ago

The base MTTH will have to be lowered anyway.

IhateTrains commented 5 years ago

Another argument against setting the date to 550 is that in WtWSMS scrollable history the Slavs settle Poland (and beyond) in 520, so between 520 and 550 we would have a weird situation of the western Slavic migration both having taken place and not really started.
