This is implemented by the model of Gutierrez et al. (1988) and could be considered as an improvement to avoid high number of apices.

If below a certain threshold will reduce from three to two or four to three depending on the cultivar. Last time this was tried it was to drastic so Patricia will use a less severe threshold and will only reduce by one branch per point, not fractions.
