A new version, 0.4.0, has been uploaded to the PPA, it should be published by
time
you read this. Please give it a try and let me know how it works for you.

I apologize, I have been made aware the python bindings for vlc version 1.1.x
are
currently in a state of transition until the underlying API stabilizes. I will
update
this thread as things change. Sorry for the inconvenience.

1.1 VLC python bindings have been released, see
http://wiki.videolan.org/Python_bindings. Note that the MediaControl API has
been
removed, only the libvlc API is available.

This fix will let you probably start sopcast with vlc 1.1.4 installed.

my setup:
sopcast-player 0.4.0, sp-auth 3.6, vlc 1.1.4 (ppa:ferramroberto/vlc)
ubuntu 10.04.1 32bit, kernel 2.6.35-21-generic (ppa:kernel-ppa/ppa)

1) Copy extracted files from attached zip to
/usr/share/sopcast-player/lib (as root, ubuntu - path could be different on
other linuxes)
2) If you still cannot start sopcast-player, try to reinstall it
sudo aptitude reinstall sopcast-player (ubuntu) and do step 1) again.
3) Show controls and fullscreen are not working with the embedded player.
Goto preferences, enable the external player and set it to command: vlc
and everything works fine.

I hope I could help

ilabor when I look at the diff between your vlc.py and the file currently on
my machine (on Maverick, sopcast-player version 0.4.0~ppa1~karmic4), I find it
very large. So the official vlc.py probably got some changes since you modified
it.

Any way you could provde the vlc.py changes as a diff instead ?

the link is dead, and I can't find the patch anywhere else. Could someone
upload it? With Ubuntu Maverick release yesterday (so massive upgrade to VLC
1.1) and international football matches tomorrow, I'm guessing it will reach
the "Holy Grail" status pretty soon ;)

Thanks for your help

oups - sorry I was hit by what I believe is a Chromium 6 bug: I was getting
"Bad Request: Your client has issued a malformed or illegal request." with
Chromium but I could access the zip with FF, Konqueror and Chrome 5.

Anyway the link is fine, sorry for the noise.

or more precisely a cookie issue with Chromium, cleaning it solved my issue.
Anyway, thanks for the fix, works like a charm.

@jerome lacoste:
The Python bindings for VLC = vlc.py included in the sopcast-player package is
only working for VLC 1.0.x

The vlc.py for VLC 1.1.x I included in the ZIP is original and unchanged. You
may get it from
http://git.videolan.org/?p=vlc/bindings/python.git;a=tree;f=generated;b=HEAD

I only modified the VLCWidget.py.

@flyguy97,

I'd like to see the 0.4 version in the SVN repo, since I build your pretty
software from source. Thank you!

ilabor, you're great, thank you very much. Is it possible to add your fix to
some popular PPAs like fluguy97 or roberto's?

if i put vlc as external player, nothing happens. how should i start the video
in vlc?

Original comment by stefano....@gmail.com on 18 Dec 2010 at 8:32

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
@stefano.tranquillini: sopcast-player will start vlc only if it's connected
(and vlc is installed). turn off firewall or assign known free static ports
(http://bit.ly/ebbiym) in the settings. start via console for more details $
sopcast-player

sopcast player works, the problem is the full screen that is not working at all.
so i would try to use an external vlc and see if in this way i can use a full
screen.
i don't really understand how to use an external vlc.
i can set in the prefecence to use vlc, but nothing happens. i set as well the
port, and try to strem from vlc the source with localhost:port (where port is
the one set as outbound) but nothing at all.
thanks

sopcast-player will run the external player command automatically. make sure
preferences - external player is "vlc" without the quotes. channel delay
default 3sec set it to 30sec and wait when opening a channel for 2-4 mins. if
the internal vlc player works I don't see a reason why the external vlc
shouldn't run besides the wrong command is set or wrong port. -mike

sopcast-player_vlc1.1x-fix.zip is essential on Fedora 18. With this player
works.
