[Meta Ticket] Formalize Thesis Process

A thesis has multiple steps:

• [Open Thesis] (optional)
  • Instructors may pose a new thesis topic with a problem statement, goals and potential references. A public page should list the open topics.
• Apply (partly implemented)
  • The student has to accept the terms and conditions of the chair
  • The student add their github username
• Accept / Reject (partly implemented)
• Proposal
  • A student uploads the finished proposal.
  • A student links an agile board (Github) which outlines the backlog
  • Instructor adds a thesis title, start and end date
  • Instructor may add more than one student
  • Instructor may add more instructors
  • An instructor has all the info to register the thesis with the university
• Registration
  • An instructor sets the thesis as registered with official start and end date
  • The student is automatically added to a thesis calendar subscription
  • The student is automatically added to a mailing list with all current thesis students
  • The student is automatically added to a keycloack group with all thesis students
  • The student receives the necessary access rights to chair services
• Progress Updates / Intermediate Notes (optional)
  • Instructors may add notes / updates on the students progress
  • Thesis-track automatically adds PRs, comments, Issues, ... from a specified Github org as comments/updates
• (Intermediate) Presentation
  • Instructors schedules a date and time for the presentation
  • Instructor select if the presentation is online, on-campus or hybrid. Depending on that they add a room number and/or meeting link
  • The presentation is added to the calendar
  • An invitation is sent to the mailing list
  • If date or time changes, both the calendar is updated and an update notice is sent via mail
  • The Student uploads the current state of the thesis (pdf), the slides (pdf and source)
  • The Student uploads an abstract which is used for the invitation and the calendar event
  • The Student links a person that will take notes
  • The note taker gets an email with a link to upload the meeting notes
• Final Submission
  • The student uploads the final thesis (source, pdf)
  • The stundet uploads the final (updated) presentation (source, pdf)
  • The student uploads the feedback log (pdf)
  • The instructor marks the thesis artifacts as complete
• Assessment / Grading
  • The instructor adds an assessment with a summary what was intended, what was good, what was bad, a summary and a grade suggestion.
• Publish
  • The thesis is published as finished
  • An instructor may select the pdf to be public
  • Endpoint that exposes this data for external use

Each Step has todos/checklists and artifacts that are either completed/provided by the student or the instructor.
