So here's a way to test if it's possible to detect a periodic source. Uses an F-test to see if a constant value is a "good enough" fit. So if the source is aliased, or has a very small amplitude, it won't be detected as periodic.

I have some questions about the metric code itself. The questions are in-line comments for the new version of the metric.
