Timeout for measuring platforms is inconsistent #83

There is an issue with the timeout mechanism which means sometimes the platform is closed before the timeout completes

We're experiencing this problem a lot. With people new to measuring it seems to time out every couple of rings just because they're slow, so it'd be nice to be able to manually adjust this setting if necessary.
