I updated the franker app with the latest version. Now franker no longer works. I've tried both translator services (Google and Microsoft), but neither work. I even got my own API key from Microsoft but that also doesn't work. #18

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open franker with iPad and try to translate an article.
2. Error says: Verify your internet connection or switch translation services
in Settings and try again. I have done both and neither corrects the problem.
3. I also uninstalled and reinstalled, rebooted my iPad, but nothing works.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? My iPad
has the latest apple operating system (the most recent update) -- the older
version of the franker app worked fine with it. It was only after the Franker
app update that I had problems.

Please provide any additional information below.

Thanks for the report.

Just verified on my iPad and can't reproduce.

1) What the language pair do you use?
2) Do you have "Autodetect" or exact language set to translate from?
3) Do Safari and Chrome extensions work for you? (ensure have Microsoft/Bing
Translator selected)
4) Please, give me a link to the page you have problems with.

Here are the answers to your questions:

1) I am trying to translate from Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian to English. All of
these are essentially the same language, so selecting any of them should
probably work.
2) I have "Autodetect" selected, but have also tried selecting Serbian.
3) No problems with Safari extension used on my Mac laptop, but I haven't done
any updating.
4) www.voanews.com then select serbian as the language. Then select an
article. I've done this daily for months now with no problems until I updated
the app.

Now I see.

The problem is Microsoft Translator supports much less languages than Google
Translate does.
In particular it does not support "Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian", I'm very sorry,
but can't do anything about that.

The only way for you to proceed is to get Google Translate API key and use that
(paid) service.
The free service they have now will disappear in a week or two anyway, and I
can't do anything about this as well.

(Browser extensions have and will be updated also soon so they do not use
deprecated Google API.)

Thanks very much for solving my problem so quickly. I got an API key from
Google, added it to the Franker settings, and everything works fine. There is
a charge for using Google Translate, but for the amount I'm using it (a few
news articles a day) it should be a minor cost.
