problems with search function. #79

Sometimes it looks like the search function resets when it gets overwhelmed with typing and it causes it to reset to alphabetical search. This can be remedied by deleting last character and retyping, but is annoying as a fudge.

Maybe we should do away with the "live typing thing? Just send a request when you hit enter.
