It isn't always easier to read though, there's a reason most content sites keep to a a narrower width for the actual article as the wider the column of text becomes, the harder it is to read. 60-70 characters is the optimum line length for readability.

Yes, I take your point. However, amongst (the very few) people I know using this theme the consensus has been that it looks odd on landscape monitors. Perhaps it can be a parameter or maybe better handled as custom.css?
