[2.1] x50: "Last Read" in Fixed Slot 2 is minus 1 book #327

PRS-350
Analogus Nightly Build 2012.03.18-Rev 50 (may also have occurred with
2.1.01alpha)

What steps will reproduce the problem?

1. Set Book History to 3
2. Set Customize Home Menu Booklist to "Last Read"
3. Set Menu Slot 4 to Book History
4. Open 5 books

What is the expected output?

3 books should appear in Fixed Slot 2 and Book History list

What do you see instead?

2 books appear in Fixed Slot 2 and 3 books appear in Book History list

More info:

* I tried this again setting Book History to 5 and 10. In each case, Fixed Slot
2 showed 1 book less than the Book History list. In other words, when Book
History is set to 5, Fixed Slot 2 shows 4 books and Book History shows 5 books.
When Book History is set to 10, Fixed Slot 2 shows 9 books and Book History
shows 10 books.

Note: I consider this a very minor problem with easy workaround (simply set
Book History high enough to cover the number of books you want). I am reporting
it only because I thought you might want to know and it might be useful in some
way.

Even more info:

* I also played with "Customize Home Menu Booklist" set to "Select Collection"
and got some weird results. When there were 3 books in the collection, only 2
showed in Fixed Slot 2. When I tried to add books to the collection, I got some
weird computer language (looked like system file names) among the collection
choices. But I was able to choose a collection and add 8 books no problem. Once
again, Fixed Slot 2 showed minus 1 book -- i.e., the collection contained 11
books, but Fixed Slot 2 only showed 10 books.

* I continued playing with adding and removing books from collections and
started getting inconsistent results with Fixed Slot 2. Sometimes, all the
books showed, sometimes not. I shutdown and restarted my reader a few times,
but results remained inconsistent. I then reset my Reader and the Home Menu
changed completely (I think it reverted to PRS+ default; all my settings gone).
I am afraid to experiment more.

* I encountered similar problems with 2.1.01alpha but freaked out when things
weren't working as expected and stopped playing with the settings. I didn't
report it then because I wasn't sure exactly what happened so it was hard to
report. This time I was more methodical, so I decided to share.

Hi there,

I am not sure if this fully explains it, but if Fixed Slot 2 is set to "Last
read", by design it does not show the current book which appears in Fixed Slot
1. So that is why Fixed Slot 2 always shows 1 less book compared to Book
History (which does show the current book).

Sincerely,
Ben.

Ha! Okay, that makes sense :-) Feel free to delete this issue.

I still got unexpected results when I tried to choose a specific collection for
Fixed Slot 2 (Customize Home Menu Booklist > Select Collection), but I'm not
brave enough to keep experimenting, so I'm not sure if I can offer anything
useful beyond, "heads up, there may be something funky here -- or it may just
be me."

Thanks as always to the PRS+ team. You guys rock!

I'm puzzled, if you've opened 5 books, why do you expect 3 books to be shown in
book history?

I set Book History to 3, so I expected only the last 3 books to be shown (even
though I opened 5 books).

In any case, after reading Ben's explanation, everything makes sense and there
is no issue, no problem with "Last Read" in Fixed Slot 2.

But there is something odd with "Customize Home Menu Booklist > Select
Collection ..." But it may just be me or my Reader and not PRS+

I think a similar thing occurs with Collections. The current book, if it is in
the collection, will not be displayed in Fixed Slot 2. Only the other members
of the collection will be displayed.

I think we can safely close this issue.

[quisvir, if I have invalidated this issue too soon, please don't hesitate to
reinstate it!]
