Description

Something seems off / obtuse about the fonts and grid lines, but can't put my finger on it. I think maybe the font used doesn't work well at large size. Try maybe Segoe UI Light for the top tabs? I dunno. Compare the fonts and panel lines from VS 2017's start page, that one looked more natural.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts of the fonts and panel lines. While it was definitely my intention to bring back the functionality of the VS 2017 Start Page, it was never my intention to recreate it exactly in appearance.

It would be helpful to me if you pointed out to me which particular text blocks had a font or size that you don't think looks good.

Same with the panel lines, are they the wrong color? The wrong thickness? Wrong padding? Or do you think they shouldn't be there at all?

The UI is not necessarily set in stone, as it's still early previews that are being released, but I kind of liked what I'd come up with. I did have some more white space in places, but I was conscious that some people don't like too much wasted space, so I reduced them down a bit. Personally I liked it better with the extra white space.

While I've received a LOT of feedback of the color themes (for the Blue theme), and rightly so because it was a nightmare. The problem was that I could only get it to work well in 2 out of the 3 major color themes, until the last preview (Preview 4). But I haven't had any feedback on the look of the UI itself, other than one guy who wants to be able to hide the developer news column.

I'll definitely be passing a closer eye over the look of the UI as I get the functionality all working exactly as I want. I'll also be adding settings for various pieces as well, so this could be another opportunity to address your concerns.

Thanks again Jon!

I didn't suggest that. Suggestion was just to refer to it again as influence to see again what worked about it

It would be helpful to me if you pointed out to me which particular text blocks had a font or size that you don't think looks good.

I did:

Try maybe Segoe UI Light for the top tabs? I dunno.

That's a great idea. :)

Try maybe Segoe UI Light for the top tabs?

Sorry Jon, I missed the 'for the top tabs'. I'm also sorry if my reply seemed antagonistic or defensive, I was just letting you know what was in my head, and I also wanted to find out which parts you didn't feel felt right to you.

I just did a global search for FontFamily, and it looks like I don't specifically set a font for the tabs at all, but I do use Segoe WP SemiLight in the Recent Items items, the Start Actions items, and the Developer News items.

Like I said though, I'll definitely be passing a closer eye over the look of the UI as I get closer to v1.0, and if you have any suggestions on what you think should be configurable, I'm happy to take those on board. No promises though :-)

Now that v1.0 has been released, how do you feel about how it looks now Jon?

I've actually went with your suggestion and have used Segoe UI/Segoe UI Light throughout the UI.
