I love this project and can't wait to become a contributor! Will this project be open sourced?

I'm glad you like it. I answered this in depth in https://github.com/lunapaint/vscode-luna-paint/issues/114.

Since then I have started opening up parts of Luna Paint like https://github.com/lunapaint/png-codec and https://github.com/lunapaint/tga-codec which I want to continue to do for parts that can easily be made into small libs. But I'm still hesitant to do so for the rest of the code for the reasons in that issue.
