Rockstar launcher fails installation #125

Open nb850 opened 2 years ago

nb850 commented 2 years ago

I get a window saying "An error has occurred. Please make sure all instances of the Rockstar Games Launcher have been closed and try again. If you continue to see this error, please visit: https://support.rockstargames.com" then it just closes and fails installation. Trying to install on linux mint

davwag commented 2 years ago

Exactly same problem here.

rizwanmustafa commented 2 years ago

Same here

Just in case, someone is thinking. Distro doesn't matter. It failed on both arch(real) and ubuntu(vm)

is it wine ?

snezhniylis commented 2 years ago

As a workaround, /u/Ashc0d proposed downloading and selecting older Rockstar launcher during installation. It works.

davwag commented 2 years ago

Thanks lot! It worked.

nooz commented 2 years ago

I have lutris installed and downloaded the older rockstar launcher version .exe. how do I install it though?

I've only previously used the script from the lutris website, cos noob

thanks

Simply hit the + icon in Lutris. Put a name, Select Wine for Runner. After that, head over to Game Options Tab, In the executable section, Locate your exe file you downloaded, Select it. Now you can save and and run it.

There you have it. Run it and follow the installation.

NOTE: During Installation, specify YOUR OWN customized path and remember it so next time you can change the path of exe file you want to run, it runs from the existing installation directory and installed exe rather then it running the installation exe.

How to do that? After you installed it completely, quit. Right click the Lutris App you just made, Hit configure, Go to Game Options Tab and then in the executable, locate the directory you installed the launcher in and then select the Launcher.exe file!

Hope this helps!

+1 using an old launcher works, but it ends up auto-updating after a bit

p0ryae commented 2 years ago

Which should be fine since we are just trying to get it running.

It should work even after the update

tannisroot commented 2 years ago

This should be fixed in 6.21

tannisroot commented 2 years ago

However it gives me a serious memory leak. Let me know if you people have the same issue.

p0ryae commented 2 years ago

I do have the memory leak issue

When I go the pause menu and then quit, the game starts lagging like crazy

GTA Trilogy Remastered btw

In the installation process my system will just freeze so I can't continue with the installation since I have to reboot

That's a symptom of a non-working oom manager. Try installing and enabling earlyoom.

That worked! However now I'm facing more errors in the installation of GTAV, weird stuff

Any updates on this btw?

tannisroot commented 2 years ago

I have filed a bug report on WineHQ and it should be fixed during code freeze in December-January, hopefully.

p0ryae commented 2 years ago

Perfect!

I hope it gets solved soon.
