Larry, Finger, the owner of this site and this repo, passed away a few months ago. I was working with him at the time on a small team to improve the rtw88 in-kernel series of drivers. That work has continued and as of kernel 6.12, rtw88 is much better. Also, new drivers to go in rtw88 for the rtl8812au and rtl8821/11au chips is under review and will likely find their way into kernel 6.13.

Now to the point for those with adapters based on the rtl8852/32cu. I am expecting to get a copy of the latest source soon. At that point, I will start a new repo over at my site and will be looking for testers. I like to keep repos private while working so I need to be able to contact those that want to help by testing. I will add a message here when the new repo is ready for testing.

Hey there, sorry to hear about Larry. My condolences. I'd like to participate in testing the new driver, currently owning a 7XE70UH and got it working on my Manjaro KDE kernel 6.10.13-3 using the solution from skyer9 at https://github.com/lwfinger/rtw8852cu/issues/17#issuecomment-2196029089. Will try latest available kernel 6.12.0rc2-2 to see if any improvements are available, since performance is worse than on Win10 in terms of bandwidth and latency.

Thanks for the reply. I now have the driver. I stood up the private repo this last weekend. I have some patches ready to go in. The driver came from Realtek with support up to kernel 6.6 so I have about a years worth of updates to make to get it ready for kernel 6.12. Give me about a week to make that happen and then I'll look at inviting you into the repo. See you soon.

I tried to run the experimental kernel 6.12 but i cannot get a X11/Wayland session only terminal, so i'm sticking with 6.10.13-3 till a stable kernel is available. I will try again as soon as we start developing. Also i've managed to bump the upload performance by not removing the usb serial option.ko(.zst) from the kernel ( point 5 from skyer9 guide ). The latency improved as well and i can get the same performance as on Win, but as soon as i even touch the antenna it loses the ability to perform well.. I'm thinking beamforming issue? Dunno yet, anyway thx to you!

I recently acquired a CF-975AX adapter and managed to install this driver on an arm64 SBC. I would like to participate in the tests. I also have an armhf laying around to test it as well.

Just wanted to share my condolences. I just googled my way around getting my crappy wifi adapter to work and I've found Larry's work and now this thread. He seemed like a most amazing human.

I'm not really a developer, but I do have a RTL8832CU device (0bda:c832), running Tumbleweed. Happy to contribute by testing if that's useful.

You don't need to be a developer. I am looking for regular users that can install/remove and use the driver. Weekly reports and posting of bugs is also needed. Nothing fancy. What you will find is my support for the Realtek drivers is different and hopefully easier to use. Having a SuSE users is a good thing as you can check the README.md for information specific to SuSE to make sure it is correct and works for you.

My support aims to make support available for as many distros as is reasonable.

Very sad to hear Larry has passed away. I have been using drivers that he helped realise for many years. I am happy his drivers and work will live on for a long time.

I am trying to setup a rtl8188gu usb stick on arm64 (rpi) but this driver won't compile on it as its missing an arm64 target. I've tried other drivers that matched my device/vendor id too but none made the stick work yet.

I can switch the device out of cdrom mode just fine. I tried some other drivers but none worked so far. I hope the new driver thats being made can be compiled on arm64 too.

I forgot to mention that in Windows after installing the driver on the stick its seen as a rtl8832cu. I have no idea what model this really is with these different reported model names but the device and vendor id stay the same.

I have tried your rtl8852bu and rtl88x2bu but no luck with those on this stick. I have been using the latter for some other sticks without any issues. They are running 24/7 on some pi's without any hiccups and good performance and very stable.

The c832 in the above lines tells me that it is the rtl8832cu chip so the repo you are getting the invitation to is the driver you need. See you there.
