Dark theme preference is not honored #318

Describe the bug

When displayMode = "dark" is set in params the dark theme is still not the preferred.

To Reproduce

Set `displayMode = "dark", delete your cookie, reload the web page. The dark theme is not used.

Expected behavior

The use of the dark theme.
