Distorted XML Output #166

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Try the following tags in XML mode: <test>a://</test>
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected: <test>a://</test> in proper highlights
Instead: <test>a://<;/test> with highlights and an extra semicolon

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I've seen this on the Syntax Highlighter module for Drupal as well as the
plug-in for FCKEditor.

Please provide any additional information below.

The same issue happens in both 1.5.1 and 2.0.x
