you can change the notification for each column at it's top. scroll to the top of the column (or gg on keyboard), then click the gear at the left corner. you will get a window with 3 options: autoupdate notify sound that you can turn on or off. these settings apply to each column separately.
*note for developers - used to be able to see this window no matter at what was you location at the column. now you have to be at the top.
If you have a rule with do:notify, you cannot exclude that in the column preferences you mention.
Having rules apply to specific columns would be beneficial for other use cases as well.
if you'll check my second comment, you'll see that these options exists in the content firewall, but for some reason are not functional.
You used to be able to check at the top line to which view you want to apply the filter to. It's either a decision they made to simplify(and then the content firewall should be removed), or something need fixing.
from what I understood, the kismet firewall filters the feed as it's fetched, before division to views etc. so this option won't be available in it, but I'm not familiar with the technical stuff. there was a similar thread here before, but I can't find it at the moment.
In either case, my guess it will take a while to do either.
So that you don't get notified (for example) every time a column refreshes.
