I agree that this should be the default behavior, but Firefox regards the new window screen as different from the new tab screen. No worries, though! You can change this in your preferences...

This workaround does work, though the extension address seems to be different per user, or something, and it's a bit tricky to get hold of. If possible, you should make it so that this all works by default, though I understand if that might not be possible with how Firefox works currently.
When you open a new window in Firefox, the tab in it is a default Firefox tab, rather than a Tabby Cat tab.
