It appears that no changes are needed, the extension works just fine as-is on gnome-shell 3.8.4.

Oh fyi my patch was merged into GNOME:

You don't need that anymore.

I mean you don't need my extension, just set org.gnome.desktop.interface.enable-animations via gconf-editor and you're done! :-)
