@epearman thanks for making this card. Do you have an idea of who might need to use this? I'm not sure I understand R Shiny Server enough to identify this, but happy to touch base about it today.

I'd recommend the standard plan. It gives us 2000 hours per month and can host unlimited number of applications. For context, if we had 30 users, each user would have at least 65 hrs/month to use any of our apps. This is also the same plan we were on previously.

@pearman Can you put the link in here to the plans. Sorry, I googled it and I'm not sure I'm looking at the right thing. I'm wondering if there's a penalty for switching plans, for example, could we start with the basic and if needed, switch to the standard?

hthrmarsh commented 1 year ago

@lzim is this a priority? I'm not sure. If so, I can work on it wk4 2023_jun_epic.

I just saw that this subscription issue has come up again and was wondering if we could refer to it. Below is my prior recommendation on which subscription plan to go with.

I'd recommend the standard plan. It gives us 2000 hours per month and can host unlimited number of applications. For context, if we had 30 users, each user would have at least 65 hrs/month to use any of our apps which I is sufficient. This is also the same plan we were on previously.

Thanks

In researching more about Posit Connect vs shinyapps.io, I found this blog quite informative.

Looks like to run posit connect, we would have to purchase a server behind VA firewall and install it. It does provide more features and functionalities than shinyapps.io server which just hosts shinyapps. However, for our authorship app, I'd still lean on using the shinyapps.io servers as that would allow users outside VA firewall to use it. To me, it makes sense to have Posit connect be an enterprise wide investment (just like power) rather than just for our lab.
