Does that mean that if it's April 16th the "info" view should show all coffees from April and the coffees drunk in March up until March 16th? This would enable us to compare our habits to last month. Or should it show the total number of purchases in March?

Your first intension was right. My idea was to give the customer the possibility to compare both months, therefore only 1st - 16th March is interesting, not 1st to 31th.
