There are a range of "forward looking" skills which are going to be in huge demand in the future I believe
You already talk about cryptography but within the next couple of years we are going to be legally required to secure devices through their lifetime (perhaps 10 years +). How do we do that?
Engineers need at least to understand concepts of designing secure embedded systems including
secure boot
secure OTA update
key management and exchange for attestation, authentication and encryption
encryption of firmware and filesystems
use of secure enclaves
Then next AI/ML are going to be HUGE in my opinion in the very near future so
Use of AI/ML models on embedded systems both at the edge and in sensor level devices
