According to this comment using ESP-IDF directly is not supported: https://github.com/m5stack/M5Unified/issues/36#issuecomment-1207193364

Do you have a comment for my, why hit was closed? I see value in declaring which IDE/environments are support and at which point you are going off-roads.

When using M5Unified with ESP-IDF, do not use ArduinoESP32 as a component.
