So, just in case I missed something: You launch the app, do nothing, close it
and when you try to re-launch it, the iPhone reboots
Original comment by dave.sto...@gmail.com

that's correct. The App try open and closed half second after, trying several
times the iPhone reboots.

Thanks. There is some way to save a log of app lauch. I can read some pam error
line xxx but I don't have time enough to read complete line.

Have you tried restoring your device entirely?
I'm unsure what causes this, since I was unable to reproduce it since then

I've also been unable to reproduce this bugs, without lack of trying. No
crashes or reboots. Frankly, I don't see how it could possibly reboot the
phone. I think accepting this bug was premature.

Not sure about the reboot, but it crashes half second after launch.
iOS 4.3.2
Pls let me know if you need more details.
Thanks!

Does the terminal itself have any output before?
Like "PAM Module Error" or something
Original comment by dave.sto...@gmail.com
on 1 Jun 2011 at 3:45
No, it just disappears showing nothing. The icon still can be seen in task bar,
though. But upon tapping it the same "open and close app window" happens.

Ok, just to ensure it's not a permission problem, ssh into your device as root
and run the following:
chmod -R 0777 /Applications/Terminal.app
Then reboot and try again.

Yeah, I did just that. Unfortunately, all symptoms still stand.
I wonder if I could enable some logging to help you investigate this.

iPhone 3GS with AT&T.
Issue: Install MobileTerminal (tried 511-1), launch app, shuts down a second
later. Installed using Cydia, but also later installed using WinSCP.
*Mine did not reboot the iphone after re-launching it several times.
Resolution: Uninstalled MobileTerminal after installing CyDelete, because it
would not delete from Cydia. Downloaded MobileTerminal_520-1_iphoneos-arm.deb,
then launched WinSCP, logged into iphone, copied over 520-1, then executed
using dpkg -i. It displayed, "Setting up MobileTerminal...." something like
that (forgot to take a screenshot). I waited several minutes, but did not see
a "finished" or "completed" sign. Rebooted the iphone, MobileTerminal icon
appeared, launched the icon, it displayed, "loading...", briefly then provided
me with the command prompt as expected. Works for me now, so hopefully this
can help others.

Anyone else having this problem, try ssh-ing into your phone and running
MobileTerminal directly that way form the command line. (ie, via
/Applications/MobileTerminal.app/...). If it crashes you should get some kind
of log message.
Also, I imagine there is a console log somewhere that might have some details.
Not sure, since I don't have an iPhone.

Hello, I have the same problem (Ipod touch 4.2.1) I did what suggested here
above: ssh to my device and launch terminal. Here is the returned message:
iPod-Guy:/var/mobile root# /Applications/Terminal.app/Terminal

I'll try building rev520 for 4.2.1 and upload a zipped version of it.
As for me, it sounds like a compile-time/linking bug

Sorry, it seems like it'd take some time to get this jenga-style code compiled
and running for me.
Additionally, I'll mark this issue as Priority-High

UITile missing means you're using the old version from Cydia, that hasn't
worked for years. (See half of the email to the google group)
Get a newer version here:
http://code.google.com/p/mobileterminal/downloads/list
or here:
http://code.google.com/p/mobileterminal/wiki/Installation

You are right Allen, I was using the old version of MobileTerminal from
Cydia/Telesphoreo repository. It was a newly jailbroken Ipod touch.
I follow the link you suggested
http://code.google.com/p/mobileterminal/wiki/Installation
choose the easiest method (add the YourCydiaRepo) installed version 520-1. In
30 seconds I was done and I can use the terminal.
Perfect many thanks

i have the same issue. trying to launch app (520-1, iphone4, ios4.3.3) from
springboard twice an found my iphone rebooting itself. when i'm trying to
launch the app via ssh (eighter as root or mobile) i don't get an error like
#19, but nothing happens: no app launch appers on the device screen although
beeing executed. closed the app using ctrl-c and did not end up in a rebooting
device.
there are no crash logs or reports except a panic report. it's attached. could
be meaningless but it is everthing i could get...

I'm having the same issue on iOS 5, on an iPod touch 4th gen. When I open
mobile terminal it says something like "press any key to restart" and beneath
that it says "[process completed]." ocasionally I as a Pam error, but that is
only have the time. After mobile terminal displays that output it crashes and
closes. I've tried using ldid to fake code sign it, chmod -R 777
/Applications/Terminal.app, and rebooting a couple of times, reinstalling it,
but nothing has helped. Additionally I tried launching terminal over ssh and it
ran, but nothing appeared on screen, I ended up killing it with a ^C.

installing it with the listed method too but no use. Help!!

Last night I installed the gmail app. It ran once and then no apps from the
Apple app store were able to run. They all ran for a second and then closed.
Strangely, all cydia and Mobileterminal continued to work. I deleted all cache
files and all the Apple Store apps and restored from my Mac (except gmail) and
it was fixed. I recommend the same.

I'm experiencing almost exactly the same scenario as the poster in comment 28:
just upgraded my iPhone 4 to 5.0.1, jailbroke, installed MobileTerminal 520-1
-- it runs once with the PAM error (trying to get a screenshot), then quits,
and on the second attempt, it reboots.

I have the same problem with IOS 5.O.1:
Every time i open mobile terminal(520-1)it shows:
"login:PAM error (line 396): system error
[Process Completed]
Press any key to restart"
Then the App closed half a second after.
If i try another time to open it the iPhone reboots.
Please help me fix this problem. Thanks!

I finally found the solution for the PAM error.
Reinstall system-cmds, PAM (Apple) and PAM modules solved the issues.
It works.
Thanks.
