Request for essential feature for the future: Show APPR info on PFD #530

For the future it would be awesome to have the approach info to be shown on the PFD like so:

SSG

Even a basic version of this would already be a huge improvement.

For example: RNAV 09 DME 4.0 NM

From what software did you get that screenshot? Since that's not the CRT version since the CRT version doesn't have a grey background, and as far as I know there would not be a DME readout on an RNAV approach by following LNAV and VNAV, only with ILS frequencies that are tuned in the FMC like thus:

Screenshot was taken form the 747 by SSG. Maybe that's unrealistic...

Here's some real stuff of a similar situation though: https://youtu.be/QFltWYirWdc?t=337

Here it's not called DME, however it's showing a distance...

Trying to find some PMDG reference, but everybody seems to fly ILS apporaches...

I've looked into it, this is a 747-8 only feature. The 747-400 does not have this. It's called Integrated Approach Navigation or IAN, and it indicates approach references and it basically adds more precision to the approach path. We don't need to simulate it as it's not in the 400.

Ahh I see! Thanks for taking the time to check this. I'll close the issue then.

Hmmm... what do you think of this one?

RL footage: 747-400 RNAV Approach with approach info on PFD

It's hard for me to imagine that the PFD won't show any approach info unless it is an ILS approach.

By the way: I think IAN is not responsible for showing the approach info in the top left corner. IAN is converting LNAV and VNAV into FAC and GP.

So: Just because a plane has no IAN doesn't necessarily mean it won't show text info for the approach in the top left corner of the PFD, does it?

Interesting, it seems like that 744 is equipped with IAN! IAN is indeed responsible for those approach indications (the approach type and dme, not fac and gp) so then it's most likely equipped with it. But as seeing that that aircraft is equipped with newer technology (see the LCD screens) I think it might've been retrofitted or something and had new software installed since this aircraft (I tracked it, it's registration OO-ACE) is from 1991 but Boeing didn't start producing LCD screens for their 747s till the early 2000s. I'd say we decide to have it not simulated on the mod as most 747s don't have it and I haven't seen a 747 that's IAN equipped with CRT displays, and also because atm there's just not enough info on it (at least with what I have).

Oh and, yes, normally there's no info shown unless it's an ILS. I can't pull it up 1, 2, 3 in the FCOM, I'd have to take some time to look that up, but PMDG for example have no info unless it's an ILS in their 747-400s, but in the 747-8s with IAN they do. Also, if IAN wasn't responsible for the approach references then it wouldn't be explained in the way that it is below:

Oh AND, last reply, the FAC and G/P modes are not a thing on the 747. There's no mention of it in both the 744 FCOM and the 748 FCOM. Also if it did you'd have a glideslope option on the APPROACH page in the FMC, just like in the 737NG.

Alright, you have convinced me!

Sorry :( There's just not much evidence that a 747-400 model like the one we have in the sim would have it installed
