Happy Holidays meeting? #36

Closed cesine closed 12 years ago

cesine commented 12 years ago

@DrDub @adrianao @grassick @peristeri @pakdel @sleepokay

Now that the holidays have hit, do we have time to get together and hack for a few hours, or alternatively just meet up and welcome our new team members!

How about Wednesday Dec 28?

Vote for options by replying to this email

Option A: Hack together at my house (Metro Jolicoeur = good Wifi, good cider) Wednesday 10am - 5pm

Option B: Get together for coffee (Metro Guy-Concordia = good enough coffee) Wednesday 3pm-5pm

adrianao commented 12 years ago

Hi there, Thanks for the message.
I would love to meet, but unfortunately I am away from Montreal and flying back on Jan 7th... If not too late to meet then, I am more than happy to meet that week. Adriana...

peristeri commented 12 years ago

Sure I have some errands that day, but I could meet afterwards.

Either location is good with me.

Hi there, Thank you, I would love to meet the team, but I am afraid that I will be in Toronto until Jan 2nd. If you arrange for sometime after that, please let me know.

I have another meeting later that day but I can try to make it the earlier bit. Look forward getting together.

Hi Gina,

I'm on baby duty that day, but I'd love to meet up for coffee (option B) and bring pookie along. Where shall we meet if we choose that option?

Have we gotten any word back from the team in Africa about which approach (server-side or client-side) they were thinking of taking?

Looking forward to seeing y'all again,

Clayton

I can meet whenever! I have a desktop computer though, so I'd prefer option B.

@DrDub @adrianao @grassick @peristeri @pakdel @sleepokay

Let's push it back until adrianao and pakdel are back in town (and i'm less busy ;).

So some new options:

Option C: Sunday January 8th 10am - 5pm: Hack together at location TBA (where there is good Wifi)

Option D: Sunday January 8th 3pm - 5pm: Get together for coffee (Metro Guy-Concordia = good enough coffee)

I forgot we should do Updates before the meeting! If anyone has any open issues that they have finished or hit a roadblock, make some notes or close the issues. Then we can try to use the issue tracker to update everyone about our sections.

The most exciting news is probably that @pakdel and I got together a few weeks ago to set up the NDK on his machine. He got part of the C++ ported image processing running on the Android. When we left it was finding the circle on the petri gel and drawing it in yellow in real time so the user could see it running. I'm sure he has made more progress since then. We definitely have no roadblocks to doing it client side. I or @pakdel will try to make a video using http://blog.ribomation.com/droid-at-screen/ so you all can see what the app is doing since RHOK

@grassick i think the ODK is busy and are waiting for details or something concrete on our side. My suspicion is that we should fork their code and add what our project needs, then we will have a clear idea of what complexity it would add to their project, and we will have an app for rocketboy76 to use in field testing. I saw the ODK has modules/plugins. We can try to work with that.. probably give them both the server and the client side since we hav both and to give them more flexibility. But I am super busy until Jan 9th.

pakdel commented 12 years ago

Both options (C and D) look good to me. I have pushed my changes to the github repo, please take a look. Since I don't have an Android phone, I could not continue development of the client side part. I will prepare a short how to set up the NDK in Linux, when I get back to Montreal.

Hello all,

I'll be in Waterloo for a business trip from January 7th until January 11th or so, so I'm afraid C&D won't work for me. Any other options work for people?

In good news, I got an android device! Samsung Infuse 4g in mint condition from Craigslist. On a $20/month prepaid Telus plan with 250MB/mo! I do all voip over 3G, which seems to be working great.

I haven't had time to peek at the project since the hackathon, but have some ideas on the image processing pipeline to try out...

Cheers, Clayton

Hello all,

Made some major progress on the algorithm tonight (despite a house awash in germs). See the attached zip of the new output:

It has a false-color output and also a counted one that marks ecoli and thermiform colonies. Needs tuning, but we might be able to do it live (algorithm is simple).

Any decisions on Sunday? I could pop by for a bit Sunday afternoon before I fly out (e.g. 2-4pm is open) if we're having a get-together

Cheers,

@grassick

Have you committed anything recently. The last change on the default branch is on the 24th of December.

pakdel commented 12 years ago

@DrDub @adrianao @grassick @peristeri @sleepokay @cesine I have prepared a short "how to set up the Android NDK on Linux". However, since I still don't have an Adnroid phone, I could not run the application and see the result.

I pushed the latest image processing algorithm to counter.py in git. Got the app running on my Infuse 4G, now just sorting out a few remaining build issues!
