Testing HDR-XR550V #265

Was curious if it works also on a handycam and it would have been fine if it would be possible to enable also all languages - so I gave it a try.

Well, here is are the messages

The most similar camera that I could find which has a firmware update is the NX5. The instructions say that you should push the RESET button to switch modes. On the XR550V, this is the recessed button under the LCD that you have to push with a needle, just next to the POWER button. This will definitely clear all settings, but it might also switch to updater mode.

Pushed „Reset“, cam display gets dark and stays so.

Ok, we really seem to hit every possible problem... You are doing everything right, but it seems that the USB connection is a bit unreliable. Can you try the same procedure a few more times? You can also run the bootloader and bootrom commands without running pull first. Does the camera start up normally if you disconnect and reconnect power?

Oh, the bootrom command is not supported in v0.16, that's why it fails. The boot1 file looks good, thank you for uploading. Could you give nflasha another try? It should be about 128 MiB. If it fails again, you can also try to dump nflasha1, nflasha2, nflasha3, nflasha4, nflasha5, nflasha6 and nflasha7 seperately.

Thank you very much for your help, we are almost there!

The 20210813_183600 HDR-XR550V nflasha.zip –content was not OK? app. 30 MB file inside.

I will try once more. BTW: “exit” does not work, also ctrl-c, quit, qq fails. I have to close the command prompt and restart from the beginning.

Thank you, the nflasha file is now complete.

The exit command is broken in v0.16, it should work in the newest development releases.

The only thing missing now is the bootrom. Can you try if the previous release of pmca-console works for this?

We are almost done, thank you very much for your help!

If possible, could you run two more commands on the HDR-XR550V updatershell? shell memtool dump 0x7a460000 4 shell cat /proc/cpuinfo This will make it easier to add it to qemu.

Regarding the DSC-RX100M7: Yes, I would be interested in a dump. You should be able to dump the firmware by executing the following commands in serviceshell: pull /dev/nflasha pull /dev/nflashaB0 pull /dev/nflashaB1 Note that nflasha is about 2 GB, so it will take a while to dump.

Thank you again for your help!

Sorry for the unclear instructions. On the HDR-XR550V, run this first: pmca-console-v0.17-63-g77b2991-win.exe updatershell -f hdr-xr550v-2.txt (Btw, pmca-console v0.16 would also work. You can also download the latest development build, then you don't need the "-f hdr-xr550v-2.txt" argument). Once the camera has switched modes, execute the two commands mentioned previously inside updatershell: shell memtool dump 0x7a460000 4 shell cat /proc/cpuinfo Then exit with the exit command. Please report the output. Note that this will do a factory reset (again).

Regarding the RX100M7: First, connect the camera. Then install the libusb driver with zadig. Run pmca-console-v0.17-63-g77b2991-win.exe serviceshell. The camera should switch. Install the second libusb drivers with zadig. Run pmca-console-v0.17-63-g77b2991-win.exe serviceshell again. This time it should succeed. Inside serviceshell, run the commands mentioned previously: pull /dev/nflasha pull /dev/nflashaB0 pull /dev/nflashaB1 Then exit with the exit command.

Run pmca-console-v0.17-63-g77b2991-win.exe serviceshell. The camera should switch. Install the second libusb drivers with zadig. Run pmca-console-v0.17-63-g77b2991-win.exe serviceshell again. This time it should succeed. Inside serviceshell, run the commands mentioned previously: pull /dev/nflasha pull /dev/nflashaB0 pull /dev/nflashaB1 Then exit with the exit command. — You are receiving this because you were mentioned. Thank you, the console output is all I need.

I tried this now. Beginning with another Sony, DSC-WX220. All worked fine and I uploaded 20210916_102600 Sony DSC-WX220 nflasha.zip

Then I connected the RX100M7. zadig-2.6.exe worked fine the first time, but after pmca-console-v0.17-63-g77b2991-win serviceshell the next zadig time out “The driver install failed” bc. the prodedure took longer as 5 Minutes. I repeated the step, but same result. I had to kill zadig with the help of task-manager, as it was impossible to shut it down regularly.

I changed from W732 to another, stronger machine with W1064, but there things worked strange. First zadig installed successfully, but pmca-console-v0.17-63-g77b2991-win serviceshell returned with “no camera found” and “connect a camera” though the camera was in mass storage mode. I repeated the zadig, again successfully (less than 5 minutes), but pmca-console-v0.17-63-g77b2991-win serviceshell again didn’t find a cam. I uninstalled the lib-usb-win32 driver – but they disappeared from device-manager before I really could uninstall them. Reboot the system. PlayMemoriesHome starts, but cannot find the camera. But this is usually the first step, bc. PMH offers the option to switch the cam to MassStorageMode. I entered the Cams menü and set USB-Connection from “automatic” to manually. Upon reconnect the cam to the Laptop, the cam displays something like I should check the other device (= the laptop?).

At this point I gave up since I need the working PC and the laptop in a working condition for my next journey starting on saturday.

After another reboot and a try to uninstall the lib-usb-win32 drivers from device-mgr and another reboot I am just in the situation that my “normal” environment works again, cam put back to usb “auto” and PMH can again find the cam and download pics from the cam to the laptop.

Sorry, but I need the equipment in the next days.

Gerhard

Sorry for the unclear instructions. On the HDR-XR550V, run this first: pmca-console-v0.17-63-g77b2991-win.exe updatershell -f hdr-xr550v-2.txt (Btw, pmca-console v0.16 would also work. You can also download the latest development build https://ci.appveyor.com/project/ma1co/sony-pmca-re/build/artifacts , then you don't need the "-f hdr-xr550v-2.txt" argument). — You are receiving this because you were mentioned.
