Possible to backup Sony Playmemories Apps from Camera to PC ? #348

So I started purchasing some apps for my Nex-5r (Sky HDR) and (Picture Effect+). The latter of which is free and quite cool. However if the Sony Playmemories store were to ever go down (and it will some day, look at the PSP store) how would I ever copy the apps onto my camera (if it ever needed a reset) or it broke and I bought a new one.

I tried looking on here but couldn’t find an answer. I tried looking on the internet via google search but nothing came up.

Has anyone ever done this? How easy would it be? Any help appreciated!

The day is coming, PlayMemories store is closing, and the time to get free and paid apps is limited.

Being able to backup installed apps would be the only way to make sure you don't lose access to the apps you've gotten, free or worse, paid for, in the future if you upgrade your firmware or have to factory.

I just found this while looking to see if anyone else is dealing with this.

Using PMCA-RE and the filesystemserver app I was able to archive all my apps and tested and confirmed a few work by reinstalling them!! I’m gonna test more to double check but this works for anyone wondering!

I did have to manually download the filesystemserver from GitHub and install the apk because selecting it in the app list errored out but after that it was flawless!

It is possible yes. I used the pmca-console program in PMCA-RE to access the service shell, used the shell on the camera to find the apk files ( on /data/app ) and pull to copy the APKs to my computer.

I tested installing a few of those with pmca (after removing them from my camera) but haven't tested them all.
