Tweak do not work on Sony a6400 #381

Hi ! So, if I'm right (because I'm absolutely not familiar with all of these...) my camera model does not support this app, so what should I do ? Maybe the answer is already given somewhere on this forum and I'm not able to find it...

I have just recently have succeeded to tweak my a6400 so its is possible. Maybe i could help you, can i ask you firstly few questions to understand if i can.

  1. Do you use windows PC?
  2. What version of the PMCA did you try to do it with
  3. Can tell me step by step what you did?

Ok so dont use 16-17 as they dont work on that camera. 18 is working but you need the 18.18 that on developer state. https://anonfiles.com/y1V5K7B7y0/pmca-v0.18-18-gd634e6c-win_zip use this link to download it, i used that version. So I'll explain how it worked for me try to do it by this steps.

  1. Change camera USB setting to MTP
  2. Connect camera to PC and install libusb-win32 with zadig.
  3. After driver change successfully changed, replug the usb. Check that now the pc recognizing the camera with Libusb win32 on device manager.
  4. Try to recognize camera on the PMCA-gui. By pressing on camera info.
  5. Go to tweaks tab and check if start tweaking (service mode) is working, if it working you will receive popwindow with options to enable

  1. Enable 2 options
  2. Unlock protected settings...
  3. Enable unlock all languages.

now if step 5 not working for you, go back to step 1 and do all the steps again but when camera USB setting set to Auto.

and if all working dont forget to delete all drivers and reboot the PC.

Thanks for your quick answer. I'm sorry, i'm struggling with step 3. I've donwload Zadig and libusb with it as you told me, but I don't really understand how it works and how to check if the pc recognizing the camera with Libusb win32.

So i am not sure what and how you downloaded libusb, but when you open zadig you need choose your camera and than replace the correct driver with libusb-win32 it's really simple to do just pressing the button.

So after you connect the camera to PC u open zadig. Then you press on option -> show all devices. Now you should be able to choose your camera from the list. You will see ILCE-6400 if i am not wrong. And you choose libusb-win32 on the right colum And press replace or install i am not sure what will be written.

after that you open windows "device manager" by clicking right click on the windows start button.

okay got it, I think it's all good for step 3 ! (capture3) But then, step 4/5 I get those messages : (capture 5 for MTP mode) (capture 4 for Auto mode)

So i am not sure what and how you downloaded libusb, but when you open zadig you need choose your camera and than replace the correct driver with libusb-win32 it's really simple to do just pressing the button.

sorry for this so for MTP mode : "Error : Cannot use camera in this mode" for auto mode : "Error : Only libusb drivers are supported for service mode" even though I use libusb driver....

Yes so its easy to fix. As i said do all the steps from the beginning when the camera is on auto. Meaning, installing the libusb again when the camera is on auto. So try doing all the steps again just when step 1 is changing camera USB setting to Auto instead of MTP.

Yes so its easy to fix. As i said do all the steps from the beginning when the camera is on auto. Meaning, installing the libusb again when the camera is on auto. So try doing all the steps again just when step 1 is changing camera USB setting to Auto instead of MTP.

So i dont know i dont see the pictures again. So put camera on auto and connect it to the pc. Open zadig choose your camera again, does the WCID have a V mark or X mark?. Try this way After installing linusb open PMCA-gui and press the tweaks and try service mod. If still error, relaunch only zadig (leave ugi open) and reinstall the driver again without disconnecting the camera and try again pressing on service mode

There is one more way but i hope you know how to use CMD. Put camera on auto and connect to the PC install the libusb-win32 open cmd run PMCA console serviceshell. If serviceshell successfully done, reinstall libusb-win32 and open gui and press on service mod and unlock the 2 options i have mentioned before.

I was about to give up and start learning kanji.... but I decided to try one more time this morning, and while my camera was plug to the computer, I tried in auto mode, it didn't work, the camera automatically went back to the classical menu after the echec. And I noticed at this moment, that the name of the camera changed in Zadig menu, from "ILCE a6400" to "Sony USB driver" so.... without really knowing what I was doing I just tried in this mode, and guess what... it worked 😭😭 The menu appeared on PMCA gui and I was able to unlock the languages setting !

Thank you soooo much for your help, really !!!

Looks like the tweaks are working differently for each camera, it really strange thats its not consistent route. But as long as its working for you its great, i am glad i could help you enjoy the camera.

While I don't have an a6400, I'm replying here because this was the only place I could find detailed steps.

I had to install via zagdig a few times but it worked on my A7RIV.

You will probably need to translate from Brazilian Portuguese (PTBR)!!!

PTBR - Caralhoo, depois de fazer exatamente igual a ele consegui (I did it with my Alpha 6600!!!). No momento que ele falou que viu "ILCE a6400" para "Sony USB driver" eu já fiquei só tentando desconectar e conectar minha ILCE a6600até ver que no Zadig também estava assim, quando eu vi meu coração já acelerou kkkkkk. Passei a madrugada toda tentando essa merda, já tava pensando em aprender Espanhol avançado lol (era o mais próximo do Português), então depois de selecionar "Sony USB driver" fiz novamente o "Replace Driver" no Zadig, tudo isso com o pmca-gui v0.18-18-gd634e6c aberto (do link da primeira pessoa que tentou ajudar, aqui funcionou ainda hoje 30/05/2023).

Depois de instalar voltei ao pmca, "Camera info" > "Get camera info" e deu tudo certinho as informações da câmera então fui todo ansioso para aba "Tewaks" mas o botão "Start tweaking (service mode) não funcionou, cliquei e deu a seguinte mensagem de erro:

"Using drivers Windows-MSC, Windows-MTP, Windows-vendor-specific, libusb-MSC, libusb-MTP, libusb-vendor-specific Looking for Sony devices No devices found. Ensure your camera is connected."

então reparei que a minha câmera tava "bugada"? assim posso dizer. Porque estava aberta nas configurações da câmera mesmo estando conectada no cabo durante o modo automático. Eu fiquei, caralho, fudeu tudo nessa porra kk, então desliguei e liguei de novo a câmera... "Get camera info" apareceu normal, fui na aba "Tewaks" novamente e ao clicar no botão "...(service mode)" e selecionei apenas o idioma que era apenas o que eu precisava então apareceu:

Using drivers Windows-MSC, Windows-MTP, Windows-vendor-specific, libusb-MSC, libusb-MTP, libusb-vendor-specific Looking for Sony devices

Hello, I am new to this site. In fact, I signed up because I need help on this subject.

I bought a Sony A6400 in Japan thinking that all I had to do was to change the language to English in the menu. I didn't know they were locked to Japanese.

I tried the instructions on this thread but didn't succeed to unlock the language menu.

What I have tried so far:

1 - Change camera USB setting to MTP 2 - Checked that the camera was shown on Device Manager (It showed as ILCE6400) 3 - On Zadig, I listed all devices, chose ILCE-6400, selected libusb-win32 (v1.2.7.3) and clicked Reinstall Driver. Zadig went through the installation process and finished it but the WCID icon remained as a red X. 4 - Repeated the process all over again with the same results. 5 - Changed the USB setting to AUTO and tried step 3 and 4 again and again, it finished the installation but the WCID icon remained as a red X. 6 - Changed camera USB setting to MTP again. 7 - Tried pmca-gui anyway. Clicked on Get camera info. it listed the info properly. Selected OpenMemories: Tweak and clicked on Install selected app. 8 - Got the message: "Error: This device does not support apps"

I tried both processes again in both MTP and AUTO mode but nothing changed. Then I noticed that Device Manager was not recognizing my camera when it was in MTP mode or AUTO mode anymore. If I change the USB mode to Mass Storage, it is recognized as both USB Drive (E:) and PMHOME (F:)

I borrowed my roommate's computer and plugged my camera to it on USB MTP mode. Device Manager recognized it as ILCE-6400.

I tried to install libusb-win32 (v1.2.7.3) again using his computer and noticed that when Zadig finished installing it, the WCID icon remained as a red X and Device Manager switched from recognizing the camera as ILCE-6400 to recognizing it as mass storage and now if I switch the USB mode to MTP Device Manager does not recognize the camera anymore.

I checked Zadig to see if it shows my camera as Sony USB Device but it does not. It remains as ILCE-4600.

I don't know what else to try. Can anyone help or point me to where I can find some help, please?

I got it to work for my A6600. So, here are my steps. I am no expert but based on what [palaelisa] said and grutos said aboiut the Sony USB Driver.

1 - Camera USB setting: MTP 2 - On Zadig, I listed all devices, chose ILCE-6600, selected libusb-win32 (v1.2.7.3) and clicked Reinstall Driver. Zadig went through the installation process and finished it but the WCID icon remained as a red X. 3 - Attempted to Use PMCA and Tweak Service. 4 - RECEIVE: MTP mode : "Error : Cannot use camera in this mode"

    • Swapped to Auto Mode. Unplug USB Here's the part that I tried differently that got the "Sony USB Driver" to show.
    • Heard the computer detect it it started with MTP, and then disconnect MTP and it swapped to Mass Storage
    • Keep Zadig on, Plug-in the USB, and select your camera (ILCE-6600), you will see that the MTP will have a CHECK instead of an X before it disconnects and reconnects to Mass Storage.
    • Before the camera swaps to mass storage, - on the PMCA, Press the Tweak Service,
    • It will fail (that is planned) and on Zadig the ILCE-6600 will change to Sony USB Driver with NO Driver Installed.
    • Now install the libusb-win32 onto Sony USB Driver.
    • Once completed, back on PMCA press the Tweak Service this time and it should open up the window for your do Enable the language.

Thats what I did step by step and got it to work on my A6600, I would image the A6400 would be the same because they have the same architecture.

What I have tried so far:

1 - Change camera USB setting to MTP 2 - Checked that the camera was shown on Device Manager (It showed as ILCE6400) 3 - On Zadig, I listed all devices, chose ILCE-6400, selected libusb-win32 (v1.2.7.3) and clicked Reinstall Driver. Zadig went through the installation process and finished it but the WCID icon remained as a red X. 4 - Repeated the process all over again with the same results. 5 - Changed the USB setting to AUTO and tried step 3 and 4 again and again, it finished the installation but the WCID icon remained as a red X. 6 - Changed camera USB setting to MTP again. 7 - Tried pmca-gui anyway. Clicked on Get camera info. it listed the info properly. Selected OpenMemories: Tweak and clicked on Install selected app. 8 - Got the message: "Error: This device does not support apps"

I tried both processes again in both MTP and AUTO mode but nothing changed. Then I noticed that Device Manager was not recognizing my camera when it was in MTP mode or AUTO mode anymore. If I change the USB mode to Mass Storage, it is recognized as both USB Drive (E:) and PMHOME (F:)

I borrowed my roommate's computer and plugged my camera to it on USB MTP mode. Device Manager recognized it as ILCE-6400.

I tried to install libusb-win32 (v1.2.7.3) again using his computer and noticed that when Zadig finished installing it, the WCID icon remained as a red X and Device Manager switched from recognizing the camera as ILCE-6400 to recognizing it as mass storage and now if I switch the USB mode to MTP Device Manager does not recognize the camera anymore.

I checked Zadig to see if it shows my camera as Sony USB Device but it does not. It remains as ILCE-4600.

I don't know what else to try. Can anyone help or point me to where I can find some help, please?

After many threads and issues on Mac M1 originally (even Windows 11 through Parallels), I was able to get this to work by the Following:

Device: A6400 (Japan)

Download the 18.18 through another post (only this one worked for service mode which is the only thing 6400 can do). Attach camera and use Zadig for the libusb install Camera eventually shutdown, but connected in the pcma gui showing service mode. Saw the post earlier about the Sony Usb showing in Zadig, I believe it is timed because if you wait after intially plugging in, after it shows ILCE6400 the sony usb will show as a device by doing nothing. As soon as the Sony USB showed I used Zadig to install the libusb for Sony USB (before it disappeared and the camera shutoff).

Thank you anyone that posted the steps they took as it helped along the way (at least fellow A6400 people)

Dude, you have no idea how much frustration you just saved me. I just tweaked a a6400 to stop nagging me with NTSC mode selection.

No this is wrong. The release version does not have support for tweaking using service mode. Only version v0.18-18 does. Please remove this comment as it cost me a lot of time figuring that out.

Caution: As I have no way of verifying where that file comes from, I can't tell you it is "safe". I ran it in a VM just to be sure, but it worked.

hello everyone, i have a sony a6400 bought in japan as well with the same issue. The problem is that I tried to follow the steps but when I did the Zadig change of the drivers my computer stopped recognizing my camera and now i can't change to MTP or mas storage inside the camera menu. don't know what to do, could you help me guys? . I'm from Cuba and internet itself is still new for me.

Your bullet points work! The timing should be perfect as you said. Basically, you need to flick the tweaking service twice on the first part to make sure it reads "Sony USB Device"

You can use conda on windows (I don’t know why, but it didn’t work for me on Linux (fedora 39)):

  1. in cmd: git clone https://github.com/ma1co/Sony-PMCA-RE.git (in any directory)
  2. install conda (search instruction on the internet)
  3. install environment with python 3.6.8 (cmd): conda create --name python368 python=3.6.8
  4. (cmd): conda activate python368
  5. (cmd): pip install -r requirements.txt
  6. (cmd): python pmca-gui.py # for the gui application

! But you still need to install the drivers correctly via zadig

its worked for me.

Is it normal that I wont be able to get my camera connected through USB using mass storage or mtp anymore? I also tried just leaving in auto. It just gives me a "check the connected device" screen. Even after uninstalling it for my device manager...

hello guys, i need help. i want to revert my camera to its original settings, without the English language in the initializing setting. i want to trade in my sony camera. im currently here in japan and for sure the camera store will not accept a tweaked camera. appreciate it if someone can help.
