ZV-E1 - Additional Language Support #403

Hello,

I got into this site after seeing a video on YouTube of a person that enabled the language option for the Japanese version of the ZV-1 and ZV-E10 using the PMCA method. I was wondering if will this work as well on the new ZV-E1? I’m looking into purchasing that camera but since I’m in Japan, I can only buy the Japanese version since they don’t have yet an overseas model of it here thus not having the English menu option for it.

I actually have no problem with Japanese since I can already somewhat understand it but it’s still better of course to have the entire menu in English for more efficient and faster usage of the camera especially when changing settings.

Do let me know if it’s possible. Thanks.

I am also interested in this. How difficult is it to do add the ZV-E1 to the list?

Just bought a ZV-E1 and was hoping this would work. On the Youtube video, many commenters said it doesn't work. Patiently waiting for this to work 🙏. If there is any pull request examples for other cameras, I could take a crack at this.

This post helped me a lot https://github.com/ma1co/Sony-PMCA-RE/issues/513 So first watch this video by Mr.Anything to the end for context before staring it yourself.

Biggest tip

DO NOT UNPLUG THE CAMERA UNTIL YOU'VE UNLOCED THE LANGUAGES! You will have to install the driver twice.

Start the Process

  1. Download Zadig 2.8 (2.9 and newer didn't work)
  2. Download pcma v18.22 (from this post FIXED LANGUAGE UNLOCK (Sony A7iii) #489)
  3. Connect the camera with Mass Storage (マスストレージ)
  4. Open Zadig 2.8
    1. Navigate to Options > List all devices
    2. Select your camera 'ZV-E1'
    3. Do not close Zadig
  5. Change the driver to "libusb-win32 (v1.2.7.3)"
  6. Click "Install Driver"
  7. Open "pmca-gui-v0.18-22-ga82f5ba"

Here my memory is a little bit fuzzy. Can't remember if I did route a or route b when it worked but I believe it was route A

Route A
  1. Navigate to Tweaks > Click "Start Tweaking (service mode)"
  2. It will fail but do not disconnect the camera
Route B
  1. Under Camera Info click "Get camera info"
  2. It should connect to your camera
Back to Main Route
  1. Return to Zadig 2.8
  2. Under device list look for a Sony USB Device or the sorts
  3. Install "libusb-win32 (v1.2.7.3)" again
  4. return to pmca-gui-v0.18-22
  5. Navigate to Tweaks > Click "Start Tweaking (service mode)"
  6. A window will pop up with the ability to unlock the languages (and possibly the 120fps 4K)
  7. I didn't see the languages on my camera at first until I rebooted it.
  8. menu > bottom tab suitcase
    1. top menu エリヤ
      1. Select 言葉 (the top menu item with the book and A icon )
        1. English
  9. You can now disconnect the camera
Optional Before 18
  1. Go back to Zadig 2.8
  2. Find your device and change the driver back to WinUSB
  3. Disconnect Camera
