I don't think it's a fair assessment that the project is unmaintaned. When you look at the issues and PRs there still is active development happening.

Well it did not receive any updates/maintenance for quite a while and gave quite a stale impression last several months back: https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-synapse-ldap3/graphs/contributors Good it has resumed though..
